My fondest memories of Paris are those tiny unpretentious bistros that served incredible food and drink where you could sit for hours with a glass of wine and some good crusty bread. Imagine my delight when I found just such a place in Los Angeles. I knew I was in the right place when I heard so many diners speaking French! Located in Culver City, Meet in Paris offers all the classic French dishes I adore from Onion Soup and Escargots to Coq au Vin, Bouillabaisse, Le Steak Frites and Boeuf Bourguignon.
But the real pièce de résistance here are their Mussels served in your choice of 17 sauces. Be sure to go early on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesday evenings for All You Can Eat Mussels – the best deal in the city. My favorites are the Lobster Bisque, Moutrade Ancienne (with mushrooms and bacon with mustard) and the Meet in Paris special with crab. For those who want to combine two loves, try the French Onion Baked Mussels.
And yes, there are some lighter items like a beautiful Trout and a simple Croque Monsier. At lunch, the menu features crepes and quiches too. There’s an extensive well-priced wine list and the staff is very helpful in suggesting perfect pairings. The place is tiny with small tables close together. I suggest dining on the patio if possible under the red awning. Meet in Paris French Bistro is the perfect place to travel to…if just for one day.
