This last year has been a big year for a man named Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, who is more prominently known as the popular pop and R&B singer, The Weeknd. The Canadian born, Ethiopian descending, singer, songwriter, and producer, saw his rise to success with the release of his second album, Beauty Behind the Madness.
You might know The Weeknd from his popular hits, Can’t Feel My Face and The Hills, which dropped in the early middle of 2015. Can’t Feel My Face spent a good portion of its time at the number two spot on the Billboard Hot 100 before bumping up to the number one spot. Shortly after that, The Hills reached number two, making The Weeknd the first artist to hold the top two spots since The Black Eyed Peas. Additionally, Can’t Feel My Face has been listed as the best song of 2015 (by Rolling Stone) as well as one of the 10 Best Songs of 2015 according to Jason Lipshutz of Billboard itself. His more recent single, In the Night, hit number twelve on the Billboard Hot 100.
The Weeknd has been praised for his talent by artists like Babyface and Drake, both complimenting his voice and artistry as a whole. Another notable feature The Weeknd brings is his iconic hairstyle, which is unique to only him, and something he doesn’t plan on changing.
