The Marvel Cinematic Universe is the biggest pop culture phenomenon of the 21st century; hate it or love it you have to admit it. If the films don’t do much for you, then take in their television tie-ins. ABC has done some successful work for them with Agents of Shield and Agent Carter, but what is most impressive are Netflix’s original series that give the universe a much more darker and sinister side. There aren’t any heroes to save the day in this one, just some messed up characters who are trying their hardest at saving their lives.

Jessica Jones is the latest of these noir series produced by Marvel and streamed on Netflix. While set in the MCU, the series is more closely associated with Marvel’s Daredevil, released earlier this year on Netflix. Both shows, as well as others soon to be released, set up the upcoming Marvel miniseries The Defenders.

Krysten Ritter (Breaking Bad) stars as Jones, who opens her own detective agency after a tragic end to her superhero career. However, as seen many times, Jones soon learns that she can never escape her past. The series has been praised for how it deals with certain issues, such as PTSD, rape, and sexuality. Also starring are Mike Colter as Luke Cage, David Tenant as Kilgrave, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Rachel Taylor. The series is produced by the same team as Daredevil, including TV veteran producer and acclaimed comic book writer, Jeph Loeb.

Jessica Jones” Season 2 starts streaming on Netflix on November 20th.
